We couldn’t be more thrilled about what episode 88 entails!
This month, a new podcast series called CU Change Makers makes its debut, sponsored by CRMNEXT’s Banking on Experience. And co-hosting this exciting new collaboration is Stephanie Smith, Executive Director of America’s Credit Union Museum.
Stephanie joins us to share more about the Museum’s past, present, and future and to offer just a small taste of what you can expect from CU Change Makers. We can’t wait for you to get your ears on it!
What’s covered?
How your CU can take action & get involved.
There are lots of ways to get involved, but Stephanie offers her top 3:
- Upload your history.
Credit Unions – particularly those going through growth periods, whether that’s merging with another CU or perhaps changing their name – are encouraged to upload stories of the history of their credit union to the museum website (acumuseum.org).
- Help “keep the lights on” at the birthplace of the movement.
The museum is fully sustained by membership donations, so please do show your support. NOTE: Let them know your donation came as a result of listening to this podcast, and CRMNEXT will match it!
- Brag on your people!
If you or someone you know in the CU movement has a compelling story, share it with us! 2022 has exciting things ahead for the Museum, including a new exhibit on women in credit union history, and we want to hear about the people past and present who’ve made a difference. Send to summer.naomi@crmnext.com.
What the future of the Museum looks like.
Plain and simple, the future of the Museum is digital. In Stephanie’s words, “Our approach is to bring the museum to everybody else. Whether it be a 360-degree tour or some virtual reality components to our exhibits, we want to make the museum accessible regardless of where you’re visiting from.”
Maintaining and developing the credit union story.
For Stephanie, it comes down to the motto of “people helping people” – making a difference for that one person. In her mind, that’s what makes credit unions different and why they’ll continue to be different.
Changing the world (yes, really).
When asked what she’d do to change the world, Stephanie drops this beautiful piece of perspective. “I think that it’s the ability to give people the opportunity to walk in another’s shoes. It’s perspective…Kindness comes from that. And from kindness come the things that you need to change the world.” To that we say, Amen!
Be sure to check out America’s CU Museum and look for CU Change Makers’ first episode to go live next week, 1/17/22.
